Advertising Law in the Age of Corporate Social Responsibility with Terri Seligman (Ep. 66)

On this week’s episode, Staff Member, Nicole Brenner talks to Terri Seligman, Chair of the Advertising, Marketing, and Public Relations Group at Frankfurt Kurnit.  Terri earned her BA in honors at Wesleyan University and her law degree from NYU Law School.  After law school she clerked for the late Hon. Morey L. Sear, former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.  Terri is a leader in her field and Best Lawyers in America named her the 2022 “Advertising Lawyer of the Year” in New York City.

In today’s discussion, Terri talks to Nicole about the role of an advertising lawyer and the different types of claims companies often make, including claims related to corporate social responsibility.  They explore the basics of advertising law, the regulatory framework around advertising law and corporate social responsibility, and new considerations for advertising lawyers in the burgeoning age of social media influencers and digital platforms.  Their conversation also touches on aspirational claims about sustainability and the potential implications of greenwashing.
